I turned 50 in September 2021. My gift to myself was a trip to Chicago. I took the train from Cincinnati and spent a week in the Windy City. I thought I’d share my pics with you. You can also visit my podcast, Tourist in Your Town, to hear more about the food and the fun.
Navy Pier
I spent some time at Navy Pier. It was during the day and out of season, so there weren’t very many people. Also, lots of stuff was closed.
Architecture
I took the architecture tour by boat. I made sure to take the last tour of the day so I would catch the sunset and some after dark images. If you have the opportunity, do it! It was completely worth it. They give you a great history on many of the buildings.
Cloud Gate
Yes, of course, I visited Cloud Gate (The Bean).

Great images! I love the first of the architecture shots, although the sky on the second looks a little odd. The black and white with the color on the bean is a great idea as well!
Thank you, Steve!
That opening image is absolutely stunning! When I lived in the midwest I used to make the trek to Chicago from time to time. The Museum of Science and Industry and the Shed Aquarium were always on my agenda for those visits. Hope you’re birthday was a great one.
Thank you, Bob! I wasn’t able to make either of those. But I did make it several other museums. It was a great trip!
Beautiful color and I especially like the dark night shot from out on the lake. I love Chicago. I live in Minneapolis but grew up in the Chicago area and it’s still The Big City to me. Wish I had some excuse to go down there now and then. You’re right about the architecture tour – it’s great.
Thanks, Jim!
