Wrist Jewelry Photo Challenge

I run a weekly photography challenge group and this week’s challenge is wrist jewelry photography. Things have been a bit crazy for me, so I had to whip an image out fast. I like to use an example for people to see, so I had to have something. I found this old bracelet and did some experimenting with it.

Our Wisteria bush is blooming like crazy this year, so I thought I would use it as a background. I originally planned on just taking photos of the bracelet. But thought I’d do a quick pic with it on my arm.

This is the original image, before any work.

The stones are now purple and really stand out.

In order to change the color of the stones, I used hue/saturation in Photoshop. The color desaturation is done using a black and white layer with masks.

Challenge Yourself Part 2

I recently did a post on the importance of challenging yourself to stay inspired and boost creativity. I ended with images from a pocket watch challenge, which led me to a book challenge.

Book Challenge

The book challenge became an Open Book Challenge.

What’s Next?

These are images I worked on this week for my open book challenge. I feel like there is more to pursue here. So, I will be doing more of these. I like the idea of featuring images that pertain to the book’s subject matter. This is why I try to continue to challenge myself. It always leads to something new and inspiring.

I would love to see your own challenges and inspirations! Share your links in the comments!

Challenge Yourself

After rereading a few of my end of year retrospectives, I realized that from November to February is a dry zone for my art. There are probably a few reasons for that. First, winter hits me hard, the cold, the short days, and don’t get me started on fucking holidays. Second, well, I think that first one is the big reason. So, to combat that, I’ve started a few challenges. One on Facebook, SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge.  The other is on Fine Art America, The Weekly Photography Challenge. I have found that sharing the challenges with others, helps keep me motivated. So, if you find yourself in a rut, take a deep breath, and challenge yourself.

The challenge was Stripes. So, I found a striped shirt of my husbands, and started taking pics.

Then, I put the shirt on and took photos of my hands.

After that, I realized that I had a striped dress on, so I took this pic.

My Pocket

The hand pics led to a Hands Challenge.

Holding Time

Which then led to a pocket watch challenge.

Time to Read

Next challenge? Books!

One thing leads to another and I’ve been working for 3 weeks straight. So, Challenge Yourself!

All images are available as prints, just click on the image and it will take you to the store! Thanks for visiting. As always, comments are welcome!

Fair and Festival Fun

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge was the Fair.  Our big summer fair is about 2 miles from my house. But I still managed to not make it this year. However, some other folks did! Some of them even made it to other fairs and festivals.

Doors! Doors! Doors!

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge was Doors. And man, did we get some door photos!

Places We’ve Never Been

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge last week was places you’ve never been. Some of us went to new local places and some went further away. All were cool places worth a visit.

Jewelry Up Close

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge was Jewelry Up Close. We got some great entries. We received some super up close and personal images and gorgeous not so up close images. Some of the images told a story and a few were just pretty.

Stay tuned for images from the next challenge – Some place new.

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge was to pick a national day from this calendar and create repetition. Some of the group members did great stuff. I sort of flubbed because, well, reasons (excuses).

Weekly Photo Challenge – Water with Glass

SP’s Weekly Photo Challenge was Water and Glass. We got some great entries. Some did not have water, but adult liquids instead. We were fine with that.
